Four Goal hero Eduardo Vargas
Sometimes an unbeaten run can end in complete and utter humiliation.
For Mexico, unbeaten in 22 games, the prospect of facing Chile in the Cops America Quarter Final wasn’t particularly daunting.
Most pundits predicted a thrilling end to end encounter which would test Chile’s resolve to retain the Copa America title.
In the end, it was a ridiculously one sided affair as the Chileans pressed Mexico from start to finish. It will be hard to find a performance poorer than Mexico’s on Saturday night.
Eduardo Vargas put the Mexican defence to the sword, scoring four goals while Mauricio Isla added a brace.
Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez who has been criticized for a recent loss of form was in sensational form as he also added a goal.
Perhaps the biggest indication of how dire Mexico were was that it took 55 minutes before they registered a shot on target.
There’s no doubt that Mexico’s coach Juan Carlos Osorio will be in for a very painful post mortem. Will he go the way of Dunga?
On a totally lighter note, a few mischevious fans have said Mexico should have built Donald Trump’s wall across their goalpost!
