He may be Premier League champion now but things certainly looked very
different for Jaime Vardy about a decade ago. At age 16, he was rejected
by boyhood club, Sheffield Wednesday on the grounds that he was too
small, but who is a giant at 16? Speaking at the launch of his V9
academy, the unlikely champion said:
"Too small. That was the reason I was told, yeah. Too small, not ready for the physicality of scholarship football.
"I’ve said it before, I don’t think anyone can be
told if they’re good enough when they’re 15 or 16 years old when you’ve
got many years to grow and develop.
"That was my reason and there’s probably been hundreds that have been told the same and they’ve had to drop down as well.”
This is part of the very reason why the Leicester City striker has
launched his academy, to discover others like him whose talents aren't
immediately obvious.
